Elmec was established in 1999 by Andrew Green, an
overhead linesman since 1978. Andrew started his career in the industry working
with Balfour Beatty Power on the Bedford to St Pancras electrification project.
The industry at that time had very few contractors and as a result there were
very few construction OLE staff. Electrification was a different ball game then
and companies like BB encouraged personnel to be multi-disciplined. This
strategy proved to be very successful for the company, who soon saw dividends
for its foresight, by being awarded some of the most prestigious and historic
major projects in the rail industry since the 1950s. The Eastcoast Mainline
Electrification project was to be Andrews training ground for the next 12 years
and during that time he would eventually undertake the role of site manager for
all aspects of the Electrification construction. During this time he would also
make his mark by devising a system of headspan erection which would see productivity
of the installation team increase by 300%. Anyone who knows Andrew will not
dispute his enthusiasm and determination to achieve objectives irrespective of
what difficulties are thrown in his way. He has always strongly believed the
ethos that being positive and determined will overcome most problems. This way
of thinking has seen him develop training plans for the CTRL projects,
Implement a stringent training schedule for our men.
